Pilothouse

A raised, enclosed helm above the main deck.

A pilothouse yacht carries its steering position in its own enclosed deckhouse, usually a half-level up from the saloon, with a view forward over the bow and often a settee and a chart table beside the helm. It is the layout of a working boat brought to a cruising one, and it suits cold water, long passages and owners who run their own boat.

The category overlaps with trawlers and with raised-pilothouse motor yachts; it is the brokerage’s label that puts a listing here.
