Alaska

Glaciers, whales and a thousand miles of sheltered inside passage.

Alaska is the expedition end of charter: the Inside Passage from Ketchikan to Juneau and on to Glacier Bay is a protected waterway between islands and mountains, with tidewater glaciers, humpbacks and brown bears along the way. The distances are large and the settlements are few.

Yachts that work these waters are built for it, with the range and the tenders for a coast where the nearest fuel may be two days off. Most charters are one-way, joined by air, and paired with the Pacific Northwest or Canada’s west coast at either end of the season.

Season
June to August; the days are long and the anchorages empty.
